HUB SPORTS BOSTON CODE OF CONDUCT
HUB Sports Boston is an adult recreational sports league designed to promote fun, friendly, and competitive play. While we encourage spirited competition, all participants are expected to treat one another—and league staff—with respect at all times. Unsportsmanlike behavior, including verbal abuse or physical altercations involving players, opponents, officials, or staff, will not be tolerated and may result in disciplinary action.
The following outlines our conduct policies and disciplinary procedures:
1. Unsportsmanlike Behavior Toward Opponents
Heckling, taunting, or verbal abuse directed at opposing teams:
We understand that emotions can run high during competition, but we require all players to maintain composure. If verbal abuse escalates to the point that an official must intervene:
- First offense: A verbal warning will be issued. This serves as a formal notice that further misconduct will result in ejection.
- Second offense: The offending player(s) will be immediately ejected from the game.
- If a team is left with fewer players than the minimum required due to the ejection, the team will forfeit the game.
- Continued misconduct may result in a forfeit and further disciplinary review by the HUB office.
2. Abuse Toward Officials
Verbal abuse or heckling of game officials:
There is zero tolerance for abusive behavior toward officials.
- No warnings are required. Offending players may be ejected immediately.
- If the ejection causes the team to fall below the minimum required players, the game will be forfeited.
- The HUB office may impose additional penalties, including suspensions or bans.
3. Physical Contact
Unintentional contact:
Minor, incidental contact can occur during gameplay and will be addressed at the official’s discretion according to the rules of the sport.
Intentional or excessive contact:
If an official deems contact to be intentional or dangerous—such as a take-out slide in softball, a tackle in flag football, or a flagrant foul in basketball:
- The offending player will be ejected from the game.
- Additional sanctions, including suspension for subsequent games, may be imposed depending on the severity of the incident.
4. Fighting
Fighting is strictly prohibited.
- Any player involved in a physical altercation will be immediately ejected.
- A formal report will be submitted by the game official and the team captains.
- The incident will be reviewed by HUB’s disciplinary board (two staff members and the head official), who will determine appropriate sanctions, which may include multi-game suspensions or permanent removal from the league.
- All decisions are final and non-appealable.
5. Police or Facility Involvement
Any situation that requires the intervention of law enforcement or facility management will result in severe consequences, including potential legal action and a permanent ban from HUB Sports Boston.
6. General Guidelines
This Code of Conduct is not exhaustive and does not cover every possible incident. HUB Sports Boston reserves the right to address any behavior that compromises the safety, integrity, or enjoyment of the league—whether listed here or not. We also reserve the right to remove any player or team for violating league rules or policies.
