Who is HUB Sports Boston?
HUB Sports Boston began in 2011 as a small men’s softball league in Watertown and has since grown into a thriving adult social sports community! Today, we offer 10+ sports year-round across Boston and Greater Boston, creating fun, competitive, and memorable experiences for over 17,000 players. Thanks to our loyal HUB players, we’ve become Boston’s HUB for Adult Social Sports!

How do I register?
We offer three registration options to make signing up simple:
Full Team: Team captains pay a one-time registration fee to secure their team’s spot. Captains then send roster invites to teammates via email. *All players must register on their team’s roster, as registration includes required player waivers
Small Group: Perfect for groups of two or more players who don’t have a full team. The first person to register creates a small group name, and others join by entering that group name and the leader’s name. HUB will then help combine small groups and individual players to complete the team roster.
Individual Player: Solo players can register on their own, and HUB will match you with other individuals and small groups to form a team. Many ‘Indy teams’ return the following season as a full squad—making it a great way to jump in, play hard, and meet new friends! Check out our Indy Incentive Program for details on returning as a full team and its added bonus!
-
Is there a registration deadline?
Registration typically closes 2–3 days before a league starts, but many leagues sell out early. All registrations are first come, first served, so we recommend signing up as soon as possible.
-
I’m an individual player. How do I get placed on a team?
No full team? No problem! Independent registration is a great way to meet new players. Assignments are announced 5–7 days before the season starts. You’ll receive a welcome email with:
- Team assignment
- Full roster
- Captain’s contact information
- Access to your team website and schedule
-
Can I join with friends and be put on the same team?
Yes! If you want to join with friends but don’t have enough players for a full team, simply use the “Small Group Registration” option and invite friends to register for your small group. Just be sure everyone joins the same group so you’re placed together.
-
If I sign up as an Individual or Small group am I guaranteed to get on a team?
We do our best to place every player. If we cannot offer you a team spot due to registration limits, we will either: Issue you a refund or offer you a spot in an alternative league where we have space available.
-
How do ref fees work?
Full Teams: Pay ref fees at the field before each regular-season and playoff game.
Individuals & Small Groups: No regular-season ref fees. Ref fees apply during playoff games. *Beginning Spring 2026, playoff ref fees for individuals and small groups are included in registration.
Players can find detailed ref fee information available on each league’s registration page.
-
When do I get my game schedule?
Game schedules are released as soon as possible. If teams are still registering near the season start, we may release the first week or two of games before posting the full schedule. This ensures all games are accurate and up-to-date.
-
I signed up as a full team. How do I submit my team’s roster?
When you register and pay as a full team, only the captain’s information is required. After payment, the confirmation email will include a link for players to add themselves to the online roster. Captains can also send Roster Invites directly from their HUBZone portal. Every player must be added to the roster—this is how they sign their waiver and how they will receive their team shirt. Players not on the roster will not receive a team shirt and cannot play.
Teams are responsible for ensuring their rosters are complete. Opposing teams may challenge an incomplete roster, which can result in a forfeit win for the challenging team.
-
How old are HUB players?
You must be at least 18 to register for HUB Sport Boston leagues or tournaments. Though we have teams and players of all ages, the average age of players tends to be in their 20’s and 30’s. Most of the time it really depends on the sport and skill level!
-
Where are the games played?
HUB Sports uses 50+ fields and indoor facilities across Greater Boston. For locations and directions, visit our Where We Play page. Fun Fact: We’re the largest permit holder of city-owned fields!
-
How long does a league run?
Regular seasons usually include 6–10 games over 7–10 weeks. Depending on the league and sport, you can expect to play 1–2 games per week. Season duration and game frequency can be found on each league page. Some leagues may include doubleheaders at certain points during the season.
-
What equipment will I need to bring to the field?
For most leagues, you’ll only need athletic shoes — sneakers, turf shoes, or cleats.
Soccer & Futsal: Shin guards are required.
Softball: Players should bring their own glove; teams need 1–2 bats.
Flag Football: Teams must bring their own ball to game days.
Floor Hockey: Players need their own stick, and goalies require defensive gear.
-
How do we get our team shirts?
The HUB Operations team provides instructions on receiving team supplies. Shirts are typically distributed on or before the first game by HUB Brand Ambassadors.
-
Will I get notified if my game is rained out or cancelled?
Game cancellations depend upon the playability of a field, NOT on whether it is raining. All decisions are usually made by 6pm on weekdays and early AM on weekends. These decisions are based on the feedback we receive from our field spotters who regularly monitor the fields. If there is a cancellation, we do our best to give you as much notice as possible.
Please keep in mind that due to changing conditions, sometimes fields are not deemed unplayable until just prior to game time. Once a game begins, it is in the Official’s hands to decide game playability. Players can expect to receive this notification via email and/or text.
